Efficiency is doing the thing right. Effectiveness is doing the right thing.

Peter F. Drucker
About This Quote

Efficiency can be defined as a measurement of how well a given system or process operates. Effectiveness is a measurement of the impact of a given system or process on the achievement of a goal. Efficiency is having quality results without wasting time and resources. Effectiveness is having quality results at the least possible cost.

Efficiency takes the time and effort to do it right, while effectiveness takes time and effort to do it right too. In the future, I think we will see more "efficiency" initiatives that are so quickly done, so cheaply, so poorly done that they have little or no effect on the world.
